For Middle School Parents (5th - 8th)
If your student hasn't shared with you yet, we had a powerful chapel service this morning. Our theme this month is COOPERATION. Our conversation this morning centered around this idea and how we might be a part of God's work in the world.
Our medium for this discussion was a film called Invisible Children. If you haven't heard of it, it's a moving story of actual events that are happening in Uganda/Sudan. Many many men and women are suffering from the constant war but children especially are being hurt as a result of what happening.
This movie is an honest look at the world - what people are going through, feeling, and experiencing, etc. In this way, the movie is raw and sometimes graphic, although appropriate. The movie has amazing potential to open the eyes of our youth to the world around them - across the world and across the room.
I would encourage further processing and discussion. As a class we've had conversations and times of prayer already but there may be and probably is more on your children's hearts related to this issue. Ultimately, we centered upon the hope of cooperating with God's work especially as it relates to the relieving of suffering and pain in the world. We earnestly prayed for hope, peace, and restoration of all the brokeness. We also talked about being with people amidst their pain when we are unable to rescue them.
A question we have wrestled with before this chapel but didn't touch on this morning was the problem of pain. The reality of both a Sovereign God and immense pain in the world is worth our processing, attention, wrestling and questions.
God bless you and your families as we walk together during this season and time. May God give you rich conversation and beautiful connection.
With Him,
Coach Jer
