Weekly Wednesday Letter

FROM THE DESK OF MR. MILLER……………………

17 September 2008

Smiles, Smiles, Smiles. Every student was shining today as the Lifetouch representative took their pictures! This past week has been so busy, that you will have to find recaps about it on our website.

READ ALL ABOUT IT!
If you haven’t caught the first issue of the Palm View Times, our student run newspaper, please catch one. Our cub reporters and new editors are doing great!

Star Light Star Bright…
The 3rd graders will be attending the Shannon Center for a special astronomy presentation funded by the Whittier Rotary Club on Tuesday, September 23rd.. Dr. Michelle Thaller, an astronomer from Cal Tech, will be giving a presentation from 1:30 – 2:15 pm. I can use one more 3rd grade parent as chaperone / driver, if anyone is available, please let Ms. Fabby know. The 2nd grade will stay with Mrs. Perez and Coach Jer.

Music
For those still interested in Beginning Band, the first night is tomorrow at Plymouth Christian at 4 PM. Call our office for further details. The Music Academy will also begin in October. A flyer will be available for piano and guitar lessons soon.

JBQ / TBQ (Junior Bible Quiz / Teen Bible Quiz)
The JBQ Traveling Team is gearing up for another tour across the Southland. This year, we can have one team of 3rd – 6th graders and one team of 7 & 8th graders. Travel team practices during lunch on Tuesdays. Encourage your children to participate!

CHESS Super Saturday – This Weekend at APU – 9 AM – 2 PM; $40

Early Dismissal Every Monday at 2 PM
Just a reminder -- Every Monday, school is dismissed at 2 PM. We do offer complimentary childcare for that hour until 3, with our team of Coach Jer, Ms. Linda, and Mrs. Rojas.

TELEPHONES
The office is normally open from 7:30 am – 4 pm. During the unified lunch hour (11:30 – 12:30), and during chapel (Wednesdays, 10 – 10:45) we will be placing the phones on voice mail. There is still a good chance that someone will answer the phone in a teacher office, church office, or school office. Otherwise, please leave a message and we will return it as soon as possible.

THE LAST WORD
Recently, I was selected to serve on the board of directors of an international disability organization. As part of those responsibilities, I will be heading back to Michigan three times a year. The first trip will be these next three days and I will return Saturday night. Whenever I am out of town, Mrs. Centmeyer serves as acting Principal. I am also always in constant contact with the school office via phone or email.
