Last week, Audrey Cumings held a 3 hour inservice for our teachers going over the new HM curriculum. In the next few weeks, additional training will be provided by WCSD reading coaches through a Reading First Grant.
Some districts choose to use their grant money by providing coaches, others train teachers, and others create websites that all teachers and parents can use.
One of the best websites I have seen so far is from the Manchester GATE program in Fresno. This student oriented site has linked together additional story background from the themes in the 2nd - 5th grade books.
Santa Maria Bonita's website has teacher resources.
Of course, Houghton Mifflin has their own website complete with resources and games for kids to play.
Another good student oriented commercial website with games that make learning fun is FUNBRAIN.
Remember, the 3rd - 5th graders also have access to the Scott Foresman history page and textbook online. Login is YOURASSIGNEDNAME.PVCS and password is GO.
