The 5th - 8th graders welcomed Diane Lenning (R) today as our Political Speaker Series continued. As a former teacher in the area, national educational represenative and a previous candidate for California Superintendent of Public Instruction, she is currently running against the incumbent Linda Sanchez (D) for the 39th Congressional District.
She spent time briefly discussing her positions on items, on how the role of women has changed in politics, educational issues. She also discussed the three branches of government (legislative, judicial, and executive) and the electoral college.
In just 2 weeks, our students will be participating in the national mock election. Our speaker series has also included Jan Baird, a South Whittier School Board Member and delegate to the DNC and Robert Baird, an aide to California Assemblyman Tony Mendoza (D)
