Announcement

Here is the text of an important letter all parents should have received by today from Pastor Tom Cederblom:

March 15, 2010

Dear School Family,

Four years ago I asked Marvin Miller to be the principal of Palm View Christian School. He has done an incredible job and has helped Palm View to dream big dreams while at the same time taking many great strides forward.

Unfortunately, Marvin has expressed to me his intent to not return as principal next school year (please see his attached letter). As many of you probably already know, Marvin recently became a credentialed minister with the Assemblies of God. Marvin has shared with me his desire to be able to pastor (perhaps even pastor a church that would minister to families with disabilities).

I would ask three things from you at this time:

1. Please express your love and appreciation to Marvin for the great job that he has done. He has poured himself into this school and into the lives of students and parents.

2. Please pray for Marvin and Teresa as they search out what God has for them in the days to come.

3. Please register your students for the 2010-11 school year, and as a reminder, the early registration deadline is April 2. The church and school boards will be meeting this month to begin searching for a principal and to begin making plans for next year.

In times of transition like these the Bible always speaks to my heart, and I am reminded of these words, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

If you have comments or questions please do not hesitate to talk to me on campus, call me at the church (562) 698-2564 or email me at tom@palmviewag.com.

Trusting in Him,

Pastor Tom Cederblom.

Here is the text of my resignation letter

Monday, March 15th, 2010

Dear parents, teachers, staff, and students:

It has been five years since Pastor Tom first asked me to serve on the school board and teach math. Shortly thereafter, he asked me to consider leaving my position in corporate management and to serve as principal. For the last 4 years, I have put all my time and energy into making Palm View an excellent school. We have come a long way in 4 years, yet there still lies much work ahead.

In life’s journey, we often arrive at unknown crossroads. After much prayer, torment, and struggle, I have decided not to return as principal in the fall. This year’s 8th grade graduation will also see me commencing a new episode in my life. That chapter is not yet written, the pages are blank; I do not know the future, but I do know the One who holds it.

Over the years, I have walked with many of you through illnesses, financial despair, disciplinary issues, arrests, divorce, and much, much more. My prayers have always been that you as parents, and students, would experience God’s love in all that we do.

Thank you for entrusting me with developing your student into a Christ-believing leader who will make a difference in this world. I will treasure it for eternity.

With Honesty,

Marvin J. Miller, M.Div
Principal, Palm View Christian School

Audio Announcement Text

Good Evening!

This is an important announcement from Mr. Miller at Palm View Christian School.

Tomorrow, March 17th, we will celebrate Mrs. Santos’ birthday by wearing Green. Students may wear jeans and any other appropriate ST. Patrick Day items.

On Thursday, the Kindergartners will be going to the Science Center. On Friday, the 5th – 8th graders will be going to the Paige Museum of Natural History. If you need a permission slip, please contact the office.

Remember, this month’s virtue is all about Honesty – Choosing to be Truthful in whatever you say and do.

We’ll see you tomorrow!

Easter Egg Hunt Helpers Needed

We need some parents to volunteer stuffing plastic Easter Eggs with goodies for our annual Pre-school through 8th grade Easter Egg Hun on the Front Lawn, on Friday, April 2nd.

We have the plastic eggs and the candy.  If you would like to help by stuffing some at home in the next week or two, please stop by the office and pick up supplies.

Thank you!

Earthquake

Good morning Palm View Parents!

Aside from some books off shelves and a few things on the floor, the campus looks relatively undisturbed.  Every room has been checked and it is safe for all students to come to school today.

Some of our younger students may feel scared.  Rest assured that our teachers will comfort them throughout the day.

If there are any additional major earthquakes during the upcoming days or weeks during school hours, rest assured that we have a plan in place, along with emergency food and water.

If you have changed any emergency contact numbers recently, now is a good time to update those with the office.

Have a wonderful day!

SCIENCE CENTER - Kindergarten Field Trip

The Kindergarten class will be taking a carpool field trip to the California Science Center in Exposition Park, this Thursday, March 18th.  This is a KINDERGARTEN only field trip.  Please contact Mrs. Santos if you have any questions.

Page Museum - La Brea Tar Pits - Field Trip 5th - 8th

The 5th - 8th grades will be taking a bus field trip to the La Brea Tar Pits and the Page Musuem this Friday, March 19th.  Permission slips are going home.  The cost is $10.  The bus will leave at 8:30 and return at 2:30.  Please bring a sack lunch.

Parking for Bones

Please be advised that on Wednesday, March 17th, the back parking lot will be secured and rented out to a production company as an episode of the tv show "Bones" is filmed at Fred C. Nelles.  There will still be plenty of parking for parents, but areas will be coned off and extra security will be present.

For those that are interested, I am actually 4 days younger than David Boreanaz, and no, you will probably not see him here.

Those of you that enjoy trivia, will remember that our former dance teacher also had a role in a previous Bones episode 3 years ago.

Please pay attention as you drop off your children, as our entry traffic flow pattern may be different.

Go Green!

That's right!  We want to Go Green! for St. Patricks Day!

All students do NOT have to wear your chapel uniform this Wednesday --  but you may come decorated as your favorite leprachaun! -- So, get out your Lucky Charms!  Say hello to Mr. Green Jeans, and find a friendly clover!  Decent Jeans allowed.

ATTN students: -- Even though it's free dress, if it's not appropriate and not St. Paddy's day oriented, you had better bring a uniform shirt, just in case.  No logoed shirts for rock bands, shoe companies, or other slogans are allowed. This is still a chapel day and we will be agressively enforcing the uniform policy.

TEA Party Survey!

From Mrs. Centmeyer - Note of Thanks

There are not enough words to express how thankful I am to everyone who attended the Mother/Daughter Tea Party and Fashion Show last Saturday, March 6th. Rain or Shine, the show must go on and that's what happened. In spite of the on and off rain, mothers, daughters, grandmothers, aunts, and friends came together to celebrate the event and had fun. The inspirational messages brought to us by Miss Gandara on "Purity" and Mrs. Salinas on "Respect" and a "Virtuous Woman" were heart-warming. I thought the girls must have learned a lesson from it. Mrs. Jackie Quimba composed and dedicated a melodious music to all mothers and daughters, not to mention her own mother and aunt who were also present.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT TO:

Mr. Miller for his wise input and financial support; the PTF for the financial support and the etiquette books for the girls; the Student Council for the flowers; the Parents who prepared and brought food for the event – thanks, the food was so delicious. God provided us more than enough to what we asked for! Thanks to the parents and friends who donated their time and services to help out in every way – setting up the tables, decorating, cleaning up, and many more; Mrs. Garcia’s sister-in-law for her ideas for the Tea Party; Darlene’s grandma for the tea pot cake – so beautiful and delicious – everyone took a picture of it before it was cut and served.

Mrs. Rios, Mrs. Rojas, Mrs. Santos, and Mrs. Chavez did a great job in judging our fashion show – the girls looked fashionable as they already are. Thanks for your time and wise judgment. All other girls, 5th – 8th, you too looked so wonderful--keep it up! Mothers, providing your students care and support they need, prove you are the best!

Mrs. Perez, Mrs. Cossyleon, thanks for keeping me on track and for everything. Mrs. Cederblom thanks for the prayer. Other teachers, staff, and friends who attended and helped out, your effort and contribution to the event were so remarkable. I can’t thank you enough. Of course I will not forget Mrs. Patsy and Mrs. Sam. Thanks for the beautiful invitation cards and support.

Special thanks to Pastor Tom for allowing us the use of the fellowship Hall and checking that the heater was on, Pastor Charlie and his men for clearing up the area after their breakfast, and Mr. Santos for checking that the campus is safe to all of us.

Last, but not least, Mrs. Garcia and Mrs. Tremain, thanks to all that you’ve done to make this occasion a great success! You set the tone to this event.

Thanks again to All!

Monday, March 8th, 2010 NTK (need to know…)

Our offerings will be going to the Royal Family Kids Camps – a program that helps children who have been neglected and abused. You do not want to miss it! There is NO Chapel on Wednesday, but we will be taking a picture on the lawn from above, spelling out 2010. The photographer will be on the roof of the church looking down. We want all students, Pre-school through 8th, to wear jeans and a brightly solid colored shirt – orange, red, yellow, lime green, ect!

Political Science Speaker Series -- Fred Hawthorne

Palm View welcomes Fred Hawthorne, long time Whittier resident, educator and basketball player to speak about the importance of civic service. Mr. Hawthorne is running in the Whittier City Council election to be held next month.

Mr. Hawthorne will be speaking from 2 PM to 3 PM to the 5th - 8th graders in the Fellowship Hall.  Parents are welcome to attend.

Palm View does not endorse or represent any political viewpoints from any candidates.  We do always invite candidates or elected officials of any party in our area to speak with our students.

Our next scheduled political science speaker is Araceli Gonzales.  Ms. Gonzales was the youngest female Hispanic to be elected to the city council of Cudahy in 1997.  She is currently serving as the Deputy Coalitions Director for the Meg Whitman Gubernatorial campaign.

Both candidates attended Whittier College.
