SOCCER TIME

Are you ready? Soccer season starts Monday with a week of practice!
The coed team is open to any 5th - 8th grader.
We’ll need to carpool over to the park. Please make sure your player is ready soon after school to begin practice. Bring water!, soccer balls, and cleats would also be preferable. Games begin the following week either on Monday or Tuesday afternoon around 4:15-4:30p. The official schedule will likely come out late this week or early next week.

Practice is mandatory unless an emergency. If your child will be absent, if possible, please inform me or the office. Simply not wanting to practice is not a valid reason. Having everyone at practice is vital for the individual players, the team as a whole, and our ability to practice for the games. Abstention ought to be rare and could affect playing time.

This would also be the time to begin practicing at home for the season. I can provide drills for practicing along or with a partner.

Swine Flu Update

We are keeping a close eye on health reports. Our students have been reminded to continue basic hygiene. While several students are sick, there is no more sickness than what is normal for this time of year and our size of school. No one has tested positive for swine flu.
The following update was sent to us today by Supervisor Don Knabe's Office:

SUPERVISOR DON KNABE
SWINE FLU UPDATE – APRIL 28, 2009

LOS ANGELES COUNTY TAKING LEAD ON SWINE FLU RESPONSE

As the threat of the swine flu outbreak continues to grow, The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health continues to lead the local response and prevention efforts across our County.
In the U.S., the good news so far is that those with this virus have had only mild or moderate symptoms. However, in Mexico preliminary data suggests this may cause a more severe pattern of infection. Our Public Health leaders do not suggest any changes in what you would normally do to avoid either getting sick yourself or passing illness to others: if you are sick, stay home; if your child is sick, do not send him or her to school; cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze; wash your hands frequently, especially before eating and after using the restroom; and do not touch your eyes, nose, or mouth with your hands. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is on alert, and we have activated surveillance to identify cases of this strain that may surface in our County. We are also working with the California Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on control measures.
We have several fact sheets and information sources available. To learn more, please see our Department of Public Health’s Frequently Asked Questions page about the swine flu, or a Spanish language version: Frequently asked questions about swine flu (Spanish).

Just 4 Laughs!

Q. Why did the gardener refuse to share her vegetables with the neighbors?

A. They wouldn’t say, “Pretty peas.”

Why Christian Education?

Recent issues of the Christian School Comment have addressed this simple question head one.

As the rate of change exponentially speeds up each year, what we as parents experienced when we were younger is drastically different than what our children are exposed too. American culture is not nearly as influenced by Christian & Catholic idealogy as it once was. Projections show that future American generations may not grow up in a Christian culture, at all!

This is why Christian education is so important. If you would like to learn more, read the two last issues of the Christian School Comment

From the Desk of Mr. Miller…
Sometimes it is important to take a look at things from a different perspective. During this current economic time, most of our focus is on questions such as: what will the new taxes cost us? How will I find a new job? Is my retirement secure? Can I afford tuition?

Believe it or not, these were the same questions our parents and grandparents, as well as the people of Israel asked. It’s a common question for every generation. When we look at things from a different perspective, we also see the opportunities, the rich blessings that we have, and a great hope for the future. Our character trait this month has been HOPE – Believing that something Good can come out of something Bad.

RECESSION BUSTER JUST GOT BETTER
After looking at our families’ financial situations and the current economy, we have decided to give the Recession Buster Pricing of $3,600 to everyone and anyone who pays a registration fee of $200 before April 17th. We are no longer requiring the minimum of 110 students – but please invite them – we need them to enroll! Palm View’s pricing and education is still the best in the entire area. Yes, this will be a substantial sacrifice taken by our teachers – but we are willing to work together with you!

Spring Break – Extended Care
If you are planning to utilize this – please call and register today so we can plan accordingly – Thank you!
