Palm View Merger

Dear Palm View Christian School family:

As many of you know, we had attempted to keep the school going by merging with another local Christian school.  While that did not happen, it has paved the way for other merger talks.

Life Church, under the leadership of my friend, Don Sanderson,  has been asked by our denomination officials to consider merging his congregation onto the Palm View property and becoming the new lead pastor.  For those that may remember, Don's youth pastor was our featured graduation speaker 2 years ago.  Don has been a chaplain with the Whittier PD since he moved out here from Ohio five years ago.  He serves as a sectional presybter and coaches churches through transitions. I see him at community events on a regular basis.  Pastor Don Sanderson's  capable leadership is what is needed in our church in this season.

For all those that consider Palm View as your first or second home because of the successful 25 year history of our school, I can assure you that Pastor Don and his team will also make you feel welcome.

The church has set aside Sunday, June 27th as the date of the vote affirming a merge.  I would ask that all families keep the church in prayer during this time.  For those that would like to attend special prayer meetings, please come to the sanctuary on the next two Monday nights.

As that Sunday, June 27th, will be our last day at Palm View as we head to Wichita, KS, we are excited as to the future possibilities that still lay ahead in Whittier.

Sincerely,

Rev. Marvin J. Miller, M.Div
Associate Pastor for Christian Education, Palm View Assembly of God.
Principal, Palm View Christian Schools  (PK-8)

Youth Music Outreach

Congratulations for another successful semester of music to the following students:

Alison Echavarri
Megan Tutorow
Nicholas Garibay
Marissa Miller

The final end of the year performance at East Whittier Methodist Church on Saturday night was excellent.  It was exciting to see how far our beginning band students have come and what they have to look forward to as concert wind ensemble and jazz ensembles brought down the house!

While Palm View is closing, YMO has been part of the Whittier area for over 12 years.  It is the only youth music orchestra in the area.  I encourage our students to remain a part of the program as long as they can.

To find out more about YMO, please visit their website at http://www.youthmusicoutreach.com/.

Rio Hondo & Natalie

Natalie & the Rio Hondy Symphony Violin

The entire K-8th Grade enjoyed Wendy Velasco, cellist from the Rio Hondo Symphony as she demonstrated different string instruments at Palm View.

Playing a little Haydn and some Brahms, she illustrated the difference between classical and romantic music.

Having some fun with the teachers and students, she played theme songs from current movies.  Even though the teachers had first chance to guess the movie, they still lost 5 to 1.  Thanks Coach Jer!  Otherwise we would have been blanked!

If any student still has a question regarding string instruments, please ask your parents to help you click on this link and email our guest, Wendy Velasco.

On Thursday, our adventure continues as we discover brass instruments!
